If you can suspend your disbelief and skepticism, author Wayne Dyer maintains that you can literally begin to work miracles. In
Real Magic: Creating Miracles in Everyday Life, Dyer explains that everyone has the ability to create magic in the mind, and that is has nothing to do with luck—going so far to say that if you can conceive it in your mind, then it can be brought into the physical world.
What prevents individuals from performing the miraculous? According to
Real Magic, the obstacle lies with disbelief and belief in limitation. For example, Dyer explains that at one time, he believed that he could not hit a backhand shot in tennis. His experience reflected that belief. Over time, he believed that he could, indeed, hit a backhand shot—and it’s now his steadiest shot.
Dyer provides compelling anecdotes demonstrating the power of belief, demonstrating how openness paves way for the truly miraculous. Some stories are amazing—perhaps “unbelievable” to a skeptic. One story is about a man named Mauricio, who performed healings on Dyer and his wife—accompanied by a literal light show that emanated from the healer’s hands. (Incidentally, Shirley MacLaine wrote about this man in her book
Going Within.)
Some of the transformative wisdom Dyer shares in
Real Magic include:
- Real magic is available only to those who can imagine any and all possibilities, while letting the how-it-will-happen take care of itself. What I am asking of you here is simply to do that. Nothing more. Just open your mind and suspend your disbelief. This is the beginning of miracle making.
- If you believe that culture determines who you are and what kind of person you will turn out to be, then that will be your reality. On the other hand, everyone who has ever made a difference in the world has been an innovator. An innovator does not look at the cultural norms and say to himself, “This is all that I can do.” Instead, he looks within, and allows his conscience and commitment to a purpose decide who he will become.
- There’s a long list of things that defy rational explanation. What is a thought? How are thoughts connected to each other? How can mothers know what their babies are thinking? What allows geese to fly in formation without any training? How can a salmon get back to its spawning place? If we cannot even being to explain what life is, let alone how we think, then why should we rely so heavily on that rational left-brained side of our humanity for what can and cannot be accomplished?
Incredibly inspiring,
Real Magic sparkles with the magical, encouraging readers to look beyond the realm of the five senses—beyond cultural mores, limiting beliefs, and cynicism—to a world where everything is possible and you are a miracle worker. This book will explain that:
- You will see a miracle-laden world when you embrace, rather than shrink from, responsibility for creating it.
- You create a world of real magic when you alone decide to use your divine, miraculous inner intelligence to make it happen.
- When you are living on purpose, giving of yourself in a blissful way, your personality will reflect that bliss. You will manifest the necessary talent and intellect to fulfill your purpose.
